Peer-Review Policy

PEER REVIEW PROCESS

The publication of articles in Verba: Jurnal Bahasa Inggris is entirely based on the scientific validity, substantive coherence, and scholarly contribution of the manuscript as assessed by the editors and peer reviewers. In addition to evaluating academic quality, reviewers also assess the clarity of writing and the relevance of the manuscript to the field of English language education. The Editorial Board of Verba: Jurnal Bahasa Inggris highly values and acknowledges the time, expertise, and constructive feedback provided by reviewers.

Manuscript Evaluation Stages

Each submitted manuscript is initially evaluated by the Editor. At this stage, the editor assesses the manuscript’s alignment with the journal’s focus and scope, originality, basic scholarly quality, and compliance with the author guidelines. Manuscripts that exhibit fundamental weaknesses, lack originality, contain serious methodological flaws, or fall outside the journal’s scope will be rejected at this preliminary stage. Manuscripts that meet the minimum criteria will be forwarded to reviewers for the peer review process.

Type of Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are reviewed by two to three independent reviewers with expertise relevant to the manuscript’s subject area. Verba: Jurnal Bahasa Inggris applies a double-blind peer review process, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed. Reviewers evaluate whether the manuscript demonstrates adequate scientific quality, originality, coherence, and suitability for publication. Reviewer selection is conducted carefully to avoid conflicts of interest, including ensuring that reviewers and authors are not affiliated with the same institution.

Review Reports

Reviewers are requested to evaluate manuscripts based on several key aspects, including the clarity of research objectives and identification of research gaps, methodological rigor, adherence to research ethics, clarity of results presentation and consistency with conclusions, as well as the accuracy and completeness of citations to relevant scholarly works. Reviewers are not responsible for detailed language editing or proofreading, as linguistic revision is not part of the peer review process.

Editorial Decision

Reviewers provide recommendations to the editor to support the editorial decision-making process. The editor holds full responsibility for the final decision to accept, request revisions, or reject a manuscript. In certain cases, the editor may consult members of the Editorial Board before making a final decision. The editor’s decision is final.
